Millennials

So today I was on twitter scrolling through my feed when I run across a post of “advice” written by a woman. Basically she was just doing your normal whining about what its like to be a Millennial (I’m a Millennial BTW) and she posted this list.

Tips for millennials to save money:

  1. Don’t eat
  2. live in your car
  3. don’t drive anywhere, sell the car
  4. your only entertainment should be watching your own tears drip down your face into your bowl of ramen
  5. die as soon as possible if you get sick.

So this by itself is ok, its sassy and a little funny, but holy sh*t when I got to the comments it was just a bunch of people feeling sorry for themselves saying we have it worse than any other generation. What? Are you serious? This is not the first time I’ve seen this type of conversation going on and to be quite honest I’m SOOO Sick of it. Is life hard? Yes. Was it hard every single F*cking generation before us? Yes. We in the United States have it easier than any generation before us. Now we have our hardships too but to compare that with past generations is just ignorant. So I made my own lists of tips to help with life and finances that helped me when I moved out at 18.

Life:

  1. Be Kind
  2. Find a partner who is Kind (that is by far the most important thing in any relationship)
  3. If you are Religious, Pray
  4. When angry write down your feelings on paper (even the worst ones that you would never tell anyone) after you finish fold it and put it somewhere until the next day and then read it again its usually not as bad a you originally thought, and then rip it up and throw it away. Sometimes you should do this multiple times to work through a problem.
  5. Besides your family and friends (and dogs) most people won’t care about your problems because they are too busy dealing with their own.

Finances:

  1. Set up a Savings account and each check you get transfer over $25 to savings. Most banks will let you set it up where it will automatically transfer for you. You can do more if you are able.
  2. Your first car should be a “beater” Yes its ugly. No nobody cares that it is ugly. You need something to get you to and from work/school nothing else.
  3. Get a personal loan from the bank for a small amount and make the monthly payments. It will help build your credit for when you are able to buy a house.
  4. If you cant pay for it outright you cant afford it (with the exception of a house)
  5. Assets are IMPORTANT
  6. Live BELOW your means until you have every debt payed off. At that point you are in the F*ck you position (yes that is a reference to The Gambler).

Rant over. I’m sorry I just get so annoyed when my Generation, who are adults, act like little children that don’t know how to fend for themselves. JC

Beard Oil

Hello again. So I started making beard oil for *B* about 1 year ago as a stocking stuffer. He ended up liking it and so I make sure his bottle stays full and even had my dad try it and he loves it too. Beard Oil is sooooo easy to make especially if you already have carrier oils and some EOs. If you don’t already have these things on hand the initial cost is going to be more than buying from the store but in the long run you will save money by making it yourself. So lets talk about Carrier Oils really quick there are many different kinds you can choose from but I’m just going to highlight a few that I always try to have on hand.

  • Jojoba Oil – is good for both dry and oily hair. It is easily absorbed into your skin because it is similar to our natural skin oils.
  • Sweet Almond – protects against signs of aging and softens skin
  • Avocado Oil – fights dandruff and help with hair growth. Also softens skin.

These 3 are the most common and easily accessible in most places. I have used all three for this recipe while I was still experimenting. Now on to essential Oils.

  • Tea Tree: works as a disinfectant, helps clear up dandruff, and can be used to treat lice. I always use about 5 drops of this for beard oil. Beards get dirty and also if you cut yourself while shaving the tea tree will help disinfect the cut.
  • Lavender Oil: promotes hair growth
  • CedarWood: stimulates hair growth and circulation to the scalp
  • Orange: is an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory.
  • Peppermint: promotes hair growth.

These are just a couple I could go on all day. For todays recipe though I’m going to use Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, Cedar Wood EO, Tea Tree EO, and Orange EO. I’ve read a couple of articles that say Cedar Wood and Orange together helps lift your mood now I’m not so sure about that part but they do smell amazing together.

This is the kind of bottle I use but you can really use any kind of sealed container. To use the beard oil you just put a little on your fingers and run it through your beard pretty straight forward. So to start I use half and half of jojoba oil and avocado oil and just fill the bottle right to the bottom of the neck of the bottle.

and then use 5 drops of Tea Tree EO, 10 drops of Orange EO and 5 drops of Cedarwood EO and then you can use a toothpick to stir everything up. You could mix in a bowl if you wanted but I hate doing dishes so I try to avoid extra when I can. That’s it super simple and it works great. JC

Greetings

I started this blog to give recipes and DIY product tutorials because its something I enjoy as a hobby. After thinking about it for awhile I decided to have a section where I talk about our life which my husband always calls unconventional (hence the subtitle). So a little about my self by day I am an Aircraft Mechanic and so is my Husband. I started my own business about 4 years ago in small town west Texas. About 6 months ago my husband *B* left his job at a bigger airport and started working with me at our company. Its been a bit rough before we had a for sure income and now its completely up to how our own business does. Working for yourself is a bit of a learning curve. Really it all comes down to your perception of daily life. For instance when I worked for another company it was really easy to get out of bed and go to work because I “HAD” to or atleast that is how its perceived. But when I first started working for myself it was a bit hard at first to find that motivation to get up and get moving. I mean I could go whenever I wanted and leave whenever I wanted, right? The best advice I can give anyone on starting to work for yourself is to make sure and have a daily schedule and stick to it. Didn’t really mean for this to turn into an advice column but hey it happens. I guess the best part about working for yourself is all the time you can schedule in for your kids. We have two children both girls, *O* my oldest who is three and *M* who is 5 months old. Having kids is probably the craziest adventure to ever exist. There is Never a dull moment. Well I guess that’s all for now just wanted to give a quick introduction to my fellow humans. 🙂 JC

DIY Hair Softener

Hi everyone,

So this is my very first post on my new blog TinksMeadow. To start off I wanted to do a simple post about one of my favorite DIY hair care products. I use this Hair softener on my 3year old. Her hair is so wild and this helps with brushing out the tangles and keeping it from getting frizzy throughout the day. Now this is pretty simple to make but I want to talk about different Essential Oils that are good for your hair for a minute.

Lavender Oil: thickens hair by balancing estrogen levels.

Eucalyptus Oil: moisturizes Hair, wards off dandruff and is a natural lice remedy.

Tre Tree Oil: soothes dry flakey skin, prevents dandruff, and is a natural lice repellent.

Rosemary Oil: helps stimulate hair growth, slows graying, prevents dandruff and itchy scalp. Also some studies have said it can help prevent baldness.

Peppermint Oil: thickens and nourishes damaged hair, stops hair loss and thinning.

Clary Sage: thickens Hair by stimulating hair follicles.

Lime Oil: prevents the appearance of aging like hair loss, promotes healthy hair.

So these are some of the best Essential Oils for Hair. Now Eucalyptus and Peppermint are pretty strong so I don’t use them on my three year old. For this recipe I use Lavender to help thicken her hair and Lilac EO. Now Lilac doesn’t really have any great benefits for hair (it won’t hurt it either) I only use it because it smells so great and my little one likes it. You can use EO for their smell as long as they won’t do any damage. So really I just recommend doing your own research anytime you are using any essential oil. Ok back to the recipe for the hair softener ( Hair De-tangler).

2 Tablespoons of Hair Conditioner

1 teaspoon of Castor Oil

1 cup of hot water

10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil

5 drops of Lilac Essential Oil

Just mix it all together in the same bowl. I usually add the hot water in last and stir until the conditioner is mixed in. Then use a funnel to make it easy to pour into the spray bottle. If the bottle you are using is too small don’t throw the left over away just store it in a jar until you need a refill.

Ok well I think that’s it for the day thanks for reading. JC
