Millennials

So today I was on twitter scrolling through my feed when I run across a post of “advice” written by a woman. Basically she was just doing your normal whining about what its like to be a Millennial (I’m a Millennial BTW) and she posted this list.

Tips for millennials to save money:

  1. Don’t eat
  2. live in your car
  3. don’t drive anywhere, sell the car
  4. your only entertainment should be watching your own tears drip down your face into your bowl of ramen
  5. die as soon as possible if you get sick.

So this by itself is ok, its sassy and a little funny, but holy sh*t when I got to the comments it was just a bunch of people feeling sorry for themselves saying we have it worse than any other generation. What? Are you serious? This is not the first time I’ve seen this type of conversation going on and to be quite honest I’m SOOO Sick of it. Is life hard? Yes. Was it hard every single F*cking generation before us? Yes. We in the United States have it easier than any generation before us. Now we have our hardships too but to compare that with past generations is just ignorant. So I made my own lists of tips to help with life and finances that helped me when I moved out at 18.

Life:

  1. Be Kind
  2. Find a partner who is Kind (that is by far the most important thing in any relationship)
  3. If you are Religious, Pray
  4. When angry write down your feelings on paper (even the worst ones that you would never tell anyone) after you finish fold it and put it somewhere until the next day and then read it again its usually not as bad a you originally thought, and then rip it up and throw it away. Sometimes you should do this multiple times to work through a problem.
  5. Besides your family and friends (and dogs) most people won’t care about your problems because they are too busy dealing with their own.

Finances:

  1. Set up a Savings account and each check you get transfer over $25 to savings. Most banks will let you set it up where it will automatically transfer for you. You can do more if you are able.
  2. Your first car should be a “beater” Yes its ugly. No nobody cares that it is ugly. You need something to get you to and from work/school nothing else.
  3. Get a personal loan from the bank for a small amount and make the monthly payments. It will help build your credit for when you are able to buy a house.
  4. If you cant pay for it outright you cant afford it (with the exception of a house)
  5. Assets are IMPORTANT
  6. Live BELOW your means until you have every debt payed off. At that point you are in the F*ck you position (yes that is a reference to The Gambler).

Rant over. I’m sorry I just get so annoyed when my Generation, who are adults, act like little children that don’t know how to fend for themselves. JC

Greetings

I started this blog to give recipes and DIY product tutorials because its something I enjoy as a hobby. After thinking about it for awhile I decided to have a section where I talk about our life which my husband always calls unconventional (hence the subtitle). So a little about my self by day I am an Aircraft Mechanic and so is my Husband. I started my own business about 4 years ago in small town west Texas. About 6 months ago my husband *B* left his job at a bigger airport and started working with me at our company. Its been a bit rough before we had a for sure income and now its completely up to how our own business does. Working for yourself is a bit of a learning curve. Really it all comes down to your perception of daily life. For instance when I worked for another company it was really easy to get out of bed and go to work because I “HAD” to or atleast that is how its perceived. But when I first started working for myself it was a bit hard at first to find that motivation to get up and get moving. I mean I could go whenever I wanted and leave whenever I wanted, right? The best advice I can give anyone on starting to work for yourself is to make sure and have a daily schedule and stick to it. Didn’t really mean for this to turn into an advice column but hey it happens. I guess the best part about working for yourself is all the time you can schedule in for your kids. We have two children both girls, *O* my oldest who is three and *M* who is 5 months old. Having kids is probably the craziest adventure to ever exist. There is Never a dull moment. Well I guess that’s all for now just wanted to give a quick introduction to my fellow humans. 🙂 JC
